The Kid From Diamond Street

The-Kid-from-Diamond-Street

Springtime means it’s baseball season! This week in third grade we’re reading The Kid From Diamond Street: The Extraordinary Story of Baseball Legend Edith Houghton. Never heard of Edith Houghton? I hadn’t either until this book came in the mail last week. Thanks to author Audrey Vernick and illustrator Steven Salerno, Edith’s story wont linger in obscurity anymore. Born in 1912 and playing on a professional all girl team before she finished elementary school, Edith’s talent and love of baseball opens doors to her playing all over the world and a great career in baseball, both on and off the field. To learn more check out this great new picture book biography. It even includes more information and real pictures of Edith at the end!
