In fifth grade we’re selecting our final book report book of the year. The requirement is that the book has been nominated for or won the Newbery or MCBA award. Below is a PDF of a list of books that will serve as a starting point to find your next favorite book!

Can you believe it that it’s already May and the end of school is just around the corner! That means that it is time for me to start getting the library books back! Here is the timeline for checking out and returning books.

May 27th to May 31st – Last week to check out hardcover books
June 3rd to June 7th – Last week to check out paperbacks
June 1st – Any book checked out must stay in your classroom
June 1st to June 15th – All books must be returned

Important Book Fair information:

-We accept checks, cash, and credit cards. Checks should be made out to Fox Hill Media Center.

-There is no checking out of books during the Book Fair. Students may however return books to the library.

-The MA 6.25% sales tax applies to the Book Fair. Please see the post below that exclusively deals with tax information.

We’ve got our spring book fair coming up April 29th-May 3rd. I’d like to remind parents and families that the MA 6.25% sales tax applies to the Book Fair. Our own Fox Hill math wizard Mr. Daley has created this handy chart that will help figure out sales tax at a glance. I believe this will be a great help in ensuring students are sent to the Book Fair with enough to cover the sales tax. I’ve also included this chart as a downloadable Tax Chart PDF.

This week we made word splashes and filled the white board with words, places, activities, sports, and other things that remind us of spring. This was a great exercise to introduce April as National Poetry Month. This activity got our creativity going and was a great starting point on how to develop ideas for writing poetry. Working together as a class was a great way to expand vocabulary, work on spelling, create art, and work together as a class and as a group creatively!
